Should i take french or spanish?

Im in 7th grade and next year i decided im going to take a language elective. My school offers both french and spanish. I want to take french because they offer a field trip to france and that would be really fun! but i think french isnt very useful because there are a lot of mexicans where i live (san jose, california) and mostly no one speaks french! Which is easier and what would you pick. Please include reasons why. Thanks!!
